A
SACRED
TRUST
"Marriage should honored by all, and the marriage
bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all
the sexually immoral."
--Hebrews
13:4
California has
begun to recognize gay marriage. Massachusetts already
does. One might say, "What has this got to do with my
marriage? I've got enough problems of my own without
worrying about homosexuals in some other
state."
Though I understand the sentiment,
it is nevertheless not one we can entertain as
Christians. Marriage was entrusted to us by its Creator.
What we see going on in the nation concerning marriage
should cause us to double our efforts to get it right,
first in our own marriage, then to take it to the
streets to do what we can to impact our society so that
our children and theirs will not grow up in Sodom, but
will grow up in what we have known as "One Nation Under
God." It's bigger than us! When the Old Testament
prophet, Nehemiah supervised rebuilding the walls of
Jerusalem, he encouraged the people, "Remember the
Lord who is great and awesome and fight for your
brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and
your homes." -Nehemiah 4:14b. We can do no less.
Let's begin at home. Then let's do what we can by
praying and working to advance the Kingdom of God. He
gave all he had for us. Let's give all we can for Him.
Let's get in the fight!
Question For the Both
of Us : Do we see our marriage as a
sacred institution? Do we see God's purpose in
demonstrating His love in our marriage to world so much
in need of His love?
Prayer for
The Both of Us: Lord help us to
appreciate the sacred trust you have given us in
marriage, first concerning our own marriage. Then help
us to make a difference in our community, in our state
and in our
nation.
